Those who live in the small beach community of Coronado know there are many hidden gems in this world-famous resort getaway. Coronado has been the destination of presidents, kings, movie moguls and Hollywood stars; yet it remains an easy going small town with rich history and culture. Noted as the headquarters of the U.S. Navy SEALs, the community also has a deep history with the military. Besides the nationally recognized Hotel Del Coronado (opened in 1888) and pristine beaches which attract tourists from all over the world, there are also many local favorites such as the dog park, public library, skate park, concerts in Spreckels Park and much more. Though the island is now worth billions, it was purchased by a syndicate led by railroad financier Elisha Babcock for $110,000 in 1885. What are some of your favorite things about Coronado?
